Arief just sent this thing over via the mailing list (I'm in over 15 MLs @_@). Some excerpts:

You might be Indonesian if:

>You carry handphone even to no service area.
(well, there ARE lots of no service areas, due to poor service :P What am I supposed to do? Leave my phone outside for someone to take?)

>You think bribery as a 'tip in advance'.
(I've never bribed.... err.. my driver does the bribing ^_~ I'm so sick of traffic policemen here. That's why I can't drive.)

>You think road as place to park.
(where else can you park, for God's sake?)

>You fly Garuda just to know the stewardess.
(Ack, sorry, I fly KLM, our colonist's airline. Anything but Garuda.)

>You send your kids to US just to go to school.
(Err... ^^; My parents send ME to Singapore. I wish they'd sent me to US though.)

>You go to a park and drink 'teh botol' instead of Budweiser.
(Budweiser? Ew, teh botol is so much nicer and healthier! Singapore's Jasmine Green Tea is just a rip-off of teh botol)

>You travel to L.A from Jakarta more than 3 times a year.
(Singapore, dear, I live in Singapore)

>You mix soccer and boxing at the same time.
(Don't enjoy watching both, actually)

>You smoke cigarette that smell like shit.
(All cigarettes smell the same. Like shit. And they all make me sneeze 100 times in a row and give me runny nose.)

>Your stomach growls when you don't eat rice for a day.
(Well... two days for me ^^)

>You believe kecap ABC could turn bad cooking to gourmet food.
(You mean, gourmet chefs at hotels here don't use ABC sweet soybean sauce???!!)

>You use a bucket instead of toilet paper in the bathroom.
(Please, I'm civilized -_-)

>You eat fried rice in the morning.
(I don't eat breakfast. But my favourite meal during senior high school after morning PE WAS 1/4 bowl of fried rice with fried egg. The best meal ever. And nothing beats fried rice cooked on a cart with wheels by the side of the road hehehe..)

>You don't think Jim Carrey is funny.
(does anyone?)

>You have ever successfully bribed a police officer.
(like I said, my driver does the bribing for me ^^)

>You have ever successfully bribed a customs officer.
(Um, I think my mother handled this one..)

>You do your shopping in Singapore.
(It's cheaper, nicer and I live there!)

>You have ever legally bought pirated software.
(Nothing beats piracy in Indonesia. There are pirated copies of EVERYTHING pirate-able ^^ Pick your choice.)

>You have ever been forced to memorize UUD '45.
(Guilty as charge. State Admin and Civil & Moral Education are so fun. *rolls eyes*)

>You have bought something from a barefooted street peddler.
(I like peddlers... ^^ Can't imagine Indonesia without them.)

>You have ever eaten something sold off a cart on wheels.
(They are the BEST! Fried rice, meat ball, soto, noodles, porridge, and all traditional kampung food are always best served off a cart on wheels at the side of a busy dusty street. Even better when you're eating right on top of the sewer)

>The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word "Jakarta" is "macet".
(That means traffic jam, BTW. THAT and "pollution" always come to mind first)

>You don't mind people being late.
(It's customary to be late ^^ You wouldn't be abiding local customs if you were right on time.)

>You have tried every Monday of your youth trying to avoid upacara bendera.
(That means the weekly Monday flag ceremony. I usually pretended to be sick to get away from it ^^)

>You have used a mosquito repellant that looks like a coil and is lit on one end.
(They smell nicer and they're long-lasting! Buy them!!!)

>Your daily conversation may include enactments of TV commercials.
(*burst out laughing* Commercials here are SO cheesy, you can't resist using them in conversations)

>Your whole class has ever cheated on a test, and gotten away with it.
(Psst! Don't tell anyone..... ^^)

>You have ever spent the night before an exam looking for someone who sells the questions.
(Well maybe not ACTIVELY looking.... ^^)

>You miss your maid during laundry day.
(YES! I hate how washing machines spoil clothes easily. I hate hand-washing my clothes.)

I'm having my torture session tomorrow morning!! SOMEBODY HELP!!!!!

oh and Gina, I like the new layout. It's BLUE ^^
Mia, maybe we can meet next time I'm here :)

Thursday, January 25, 2001, 11:53 a.m.

GAH!!! This is my last full day in Jakarta. I don't want to go back. I don't want to go back!!! Next time I'll be back here will be in late May :(

Going to old high school again, then to Michelle's house to check the T-shirt production process, then to gramp's house delivering Harry Potter vol 3 to Eileen ^^, after that I guess I'll hunt around for Meitantei Conan mangas, then spend the rest of the day phoning friends I haven't got the chance to call.

[[ currently listening to : Simply Red's Blue album ]]

All through dinner my feet were throbbing and I was grumpy because of it. Then, sitting at the very back of the car, being cramped together with my three cousins, Kendean just HAD to step on my foot with his size-9 gigantic Nike shoes >.< I was so in pain I blurted out something I shouldn't say in front of my younger cousins... ^^ (plus Kendean was holding both of my hands and squeezing them REAL hard

Me : SH******TTT!!!
Zhueny : *with her extra loud voice* Did Jane-neechan just said "shit"? She did, did she???!!!!
Me : *screams* KENDEAN!!!! *launch REALLY painful counter-attack*
Mother & aunts sitting in front : Children, can you please be quiet?!
Zhueny : *yells* MOM, Edwin just did something to meee!!!!!
(more shoutings and screams from the back of the car)

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!

Things you can learn on CNY :

1. Food served at gramps' is always the same every year.
Mother : It's tradition, dear.
Me : Can't we have a variation?
Mother : No.
Aunt Mei : Now, eat the bee hoon. For longetivity.
Me : *stares at bee hoon in disgust*
Cousin Shirley : Better eat it. My mom made it.
Me : *eats bee hoon relunctantly*

2. CNY is usually boring
Me : *hides in an air-con room upstairs with a jar of chocolate cornflakes cookie, a glass of lychee drink and a stack of Meitantei Conan mangas*

3. The ang paos you get is only enough to pay for the plane ticket from Singapore to Jakarta and back.

4. Aunties believe you when you say you need another ang pao for brother Nick who's in US although the money is actually for you.

5. Never eat too much during the day because the dinner is so much nicer.

6. Don't eat too many dry cookies, they're bad for your throat.

7. Female cousins are boring and uninteresting (so are uncles).
Cousin Jessica : OOH! MARK!!! *drools on a picture of Westlife*
Cousin Irene : Change the channel, I want to watch that gossip show on TV!
Cousin Eileen : PLEASE bring me Harry Potter volume 3!!!
Cousin Mandy : ......
Cousin Shirley : let's play Truth or Dare!!
Me : *pops in another cookie into mouth and continues to read Meitantei Conan mangas*

8. Shinichi Kudo of Meitantei Conan is a hottie. I think I'm in love.

So I made an offhand comment about some anime being shoujo and another being shounen and apparently some people took it seriously. As a result I have to write a long e-mail. People are just so touchy about classifying things, objecting to them vehemently as if it was stereotyping. I don't see anyone objecting we humans being classified as primates and them dogs as carnivores. We do eat meat as well, now, do we? (Most of us, anyway) And I happen to love my dog like I love another human being. (and my dog loves veggie and fruits, she won't even eat her meat sometimes -_-)

Go fly kite.

Just got back from Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner AND my aunt's silver wedding anniversary. I'm so full I can't move >.< And drinking red wine mixed with Sprite is NOT good for my weak digestion. So is wearing high-heeled sandals on badly sprained feet. Oh damn.

Monday, January 22, 2001, 07:03 p.m.

oh my, Gina, Sarah, I suppose you've done all you could... It's up to the admin of THAT page to do something abt it. BTW, what language is that page in? I can't read any of it ^^

I had fun todaaaayyyyy... heard lots of interesting story about a certain sighting of the face of Jesus Christ somewhere here in Jakarta when I visited my old high school. VERY interesting & exciting ^^ I've shared my story to a lot of people thru e-mail already. Let me know if you're interested to hear about it.

I really really love my old high school *sigh*

I bought 6 mangas today!!! *evil cackle* I'm REALLY collecting Conan this time. Ppl think it's too late since it's out till vol 25 and I haven't owned a single one but no harm trying. I think I can find all of them slowly. Kanata Kara 9 is out *drool, drool, drool* IZAKUUU!!!!

[[ still listening to Xenogears soundtrack, really bring back old gaming memories ^^ I never got to finish Xenogears... ]]

ZS just hit 30K visitors this weekend! I'm so impressed!!!! Minna, thanks for coming & for the support. *dabbing eyes* (my eyes are still swollen and red from my torture session anyway ^_^)

I will definitely get all the stuff I've been wanting to put in ZS with the next version. I'm targeting the next version (v2.02 or v3.0?) to be out in time for ZS' 1st anniversary, which is on May 7th. Yes, that's still months away from now but considering how full my schedule is for this semester (with Hall Production, Bazaar, Dance Night, all happening in Feb), I'm even afraid I might not make it. But I'll definitely try to make it. March and April will be relatively free but I do have final exams in April ^^ I am, after all, still a university student.

[[ currently listening to : Xenogears soundtrack ]]

I'm HOMEEE!!! * waves madly* I had an unpleasant flight today though. 50 minutes delay & 1 hr 20 mins of proper flight time. I was not impressed. I'm sticking to KLM next time. Luckily I didnt bring any luggage with me, it's just my old trusty backpack and my laptop.

There is a reason why I avoid news about Indonesia. Like when I got home, the TV was on and the news was on. It was a news about this PPP (a political party) partisans who went out to ride around the city today on buses and trucks. I didn't catched what they were up to. Obviously proclaiming something political in content, but anyway, these people didn't only sat in the bus, they sat on top of it. And THEN, of all stupid things a human being is capable of doing, the driver decided to go into a tunnel that is not supposed to be used by tall vehicles. And you know what happened next, the people on the roof of the bus were thrown away and two died on the spot. How stupid is that?! *disgusted face* And I saw the shot and the bus was already halfway in. I reckon the driver stopped when he found out he couldn't move anymore because it was stuck.

Then, of course, I decided to read the paper out of curiousity and on the front page was President Arroyo's news (which I already read on my Sunday Times in Singapore while waiting for my flight) AND news about Tommy Suharto. He's getting more and more interesting day by day. First he was the coward spoiled son of a corrupt throwned president, and now he's a terrorist fugitive behind all the bombings, supposedly worth being feared of. Go to hell. Both HIM and the current government. The press isn't helping either. What ever happen to free press and all that crap?

Oh yeah, pure idiocy really disgusts me.

Anyway, forget about that. Filipinos, I wish you a more competent government system under the new president.

Remember my sprained right foot? Well, I asked my mother to call the masseuse to massage it for me. She came straight away and put me in pure physical torture for half an hour. My foot was swollen and it hurt when touched, so you can imagine my pain when it was massaged. Tears came out everytime she pressed the injured parts and it was all I could do from screaming out loud. And to make matters worse, she checked my left foot which was badly sprained 1 1/2 year ago and found out what a bad shape it's in and decided to work on it too. And it still hurt like hell, which surprised me. The masseuse said I probably injured it often without realizing it. I have bruises on my foot now... and it still hurt when touched although not when I flexed it anymore.

Really, if you want to torture someone, forget whips and carving knives. Sprained the person's foot and have an experienced masseuse or a trained physiotherapist to massage it. Absolute torture. And till this day, I have experienced it three times. How much luckier can I get >.< And yes, it was absolutely necessary or it'll never heal and I won't be able to run or dance without feeling pain.

Masseuse : You have to walk carefully
Father : *nods, nods* Yes, dear. Don't wear any high heel shoes.
Me : *clenching teeth in extreme pain* I only wear NIKE running shoes and I still sprained myself in them!
Father : It's OK to scream in pain, you know.
Me : -_-

I'm scheduled for another torture session on Friday morning >.<

Mizu-chan, I love the new layout 0_0 it's way cool!

I'm adding her log and Gina's to my link list so I won't have to go to Tin's to go to them (yeah I'm too lazy to type the URL although I remember it ^^)

[[currently listening to : a bunch of K and J pop, among whic are : HOT's Aiyah & Luna Sea's Love Song ]]

Gina-san, you'd be disappointed to know that I *nearly* bought the HOT album but I didn't ^^ I need more convincing, please?

I forgot to mention KR Dancers used HOT's Aiyah for Funkamania ^^ Not the whole song, of course, they continued it with some American rock song. And for the opening they used just the 4 words "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec" from FF8's Liberi Fatali for the eerie effect. And everyone told me the dance was very scary indeed ^^ I wonder how they made those torches they carried in the beginning... they looked cool, and they doused it off with their hand so the flame should be quite harmless.

Dance practice today wasn't as painful as I suspected ^^ Of course, having performed that dance once makes it easier. And I fell flat on my butt once ^^ My choreographer seemed to notice how unstable I was and I had to tell him about my sprained foot :) The foot is OK now, I guess. It hurt like hell this morning and I had to limp all the way to my Jap class, it didn't helped the train was so full because it's weekend and I had to stand. I arrived one hour late because I forgot the class started earlier today, straight away did my test without studying at all, and was in such a state of unstable mind and unpreparedness that the result wasn't up to my usual standard :P

Sarah dear, where are you? Still burying yourself between Kanji characters?

Saturday, January 20, 2001, 08:16 p.m.

Something is definitely wrong with me these days. I dunno whether I'm bored, tired, depressed, or frustrated with myself. GAAAAAHHHHH!!! Thank God I'm going home tomorrow. I'll relax, have fun and stop thinking about things I don't care to think about for 5 days. After that, it's a few more months of bloody school life.

Saturday, January 20, 2001, 02:21 a.m.

Tin-sama & Mia-chan, I actually don't know what's been happening in Philipines right now 0_0 I know a lot of Filipinos on the net and I think I've received e-mails from them about what's happening nowadays but I don't have a clue 0_0 I should read the newspaper, I usually do but I don't even have time to drop by at the lounge and grab them.

Ack, but never mind, whatever it is, it sounds better than what Indonesia had to go through 2 1/2 years ago (At least, I haven't been hearing any riots there ^^) Wami and J doesn't seem to be overly concerned about it ^^

Wami, what topic did you decide on finally? How was it?
Yin, where are you?
Oh, and Mia, I'm coming back to Jakarta this Sunday for Chinese New Year, you know ^_~
J, good luck for those university exams. You can do it. Hey, if you go to Ateneo, you'll be in the same uni as Wami (psst, Wami's scary though.... *munch on Kara's tails*)

Oh wow nearly everyone I know on the Net are Filipinos ^^ I only know one Filipino IRL, her name's Val and she was from Pisay (correct spelling?). She's in my faculty, very cute, a genius (straight A's, Dean's List), and she's very fun. She joked once that I must have like them Filipinos so much to know so many of you ^^

Saturday, January 20, 2001, 01:51 a.m.

I'm VERY tired and therefore in a very grumpy mood. I just got back from watching Funkamania and having supper. I sprained my right foot earlier (not as bad as my left foot a year and a half ago, but no doubt it'll ache all the time too), I have no voice after shouting and cheering so much, and I THINK I managed to miss PP (not my fault, Funkamania ended around 11.30!). I still have to study for my Jap mid-term tomorrow, clean my room (I *do* have a limit on how messy my room can be), wash my clothes, dry my hair, and massage my foot so I won't have to limp tomorrow.

OH AND WE WON FUNKAMANIA!!!!!!!!! All the dancers were fab, though. I've seen our dance so many times it didn't struck me as extraordinary anymore but apparently the judges thought so ^^ And nearly the whole KR was down there and bringing the roof with our screams and shoutings. But it was sooooo fun (despite my butt hurt from sitting on the stone floor for 5 hours).

I'm just so tired :(

Friday, January 19, 2001, 11:41 a.m.

Okaaayyyy I promised Dian I'd come for the 10 o'clock lecture today. I even told Anne that I'd see her in lecture, and so did she. I *did* woke up at 9. I was awake enough to think about my options. I considered my schedule for today and it is very full (get my plane ticket, do my homework, tutorial, Funkamania, PP) until at least 1 AM in the morning SO I thought I deserve more than a 6 hour sleep and slept on. I woke up at 11 and turned on my computer....

Anne (via MSN Messenger) : Jane! You're here!!
Me : and YOU'RE here!
Anne : Yeah I know! I couldn't wake up
Me : Me too.
Anne and me : Hehehehe... *niko niko*

Anne and I used to be in 3 same classes. Now we're not in any, except lectures. And since we skip lectures a lot, we rarely see each other anymore. Anne usually skips 10 AM lectures. Me? I skip all kinds of lecture :P I think I haven't attended a single lecture for the whole week. OMG! It's TRUE!!!! And I'm going to be skipping next week's as well!!!!!

ah well, whatever. I'm going to my travel agent to get my ticket now.

Thursday, January 18, 2001, 05:34 p.m.

Right, I haven't e-mailed you guys yet BUT I have made additions to B 318 and IASC Sorrrrryyyyyyyy!!! I still have tons of things to do tonight and I actually planned to watch the Jap Movie Festival tonight BUT one of the assistant blockheads just had to mention that the block's Reunion Dinner is tonight. Oh and my assistant producer e-mailed telling me I have a job to do at 11 pm (involving those 4000 brochures again, oh yay -_-)

Oh damn I think I still have several other things to do.... I think I better take shower first before I have to shower at 2.30 AM again.

ONE MORE THING! I'm going home to Jakarta on Sunday for Chinese New Year! I *finally* got the plane ticket. I'm so happy I forgive my travel agent for all the times she hang up on me, made me wait for ages on my mobile, went to the ladies, and ignored me :P Bad thing is, I can't get KLM this time because it's full although it's currently my favourite airline ^^

Wednesday, January 17, 2001, 02:50 p.m.

OK I've done all the dirty boring paperwork (ie : proposals, conformation faxes, minutes, etc) for the mean time then tomorrow I'll start making things graphic-related (ie : new layout for IASC, it's getting boring, don't you think? then Chinese New Year card design, and err... probably tinkered around with ZS or Tsuioku new layout)

Yeah, I'll also be doing my e-mails tomorrow. Worry not. (Unless something happens, like Publicity Push!!!??? *pained groan*) bai bai (ala Kara ^^)now.

Wednesday, January 17, 2001, 03:01 a.m.

Just wanna say I'll be staying over at aunt's place again and I'll be very busy, so those of you whom I owe e-mails to, just hold on tight. (That includes YOU, daddy)

Wednesday, January 17, 2001, 01:01 a.m.

This is a busy, full & tiring day. I don't even have time to shower >.< (I'm going to, after I blog, OK?!) OM tutorial sux, Stats tutorial was boring, I had to do three meeting minutes (my fault for procrastinating), wrote a brief summary of Jap history and events in the OVA to my co-writer, ate dinner, attended two meetings (the last one lasted 2 1/2 hours and involved cutting 4000 brochures -_-) and I am NOT going to let that revolting guy called Jefry irritate me.

I just HATE stressed people. They are so gloomy and irritatingly neurotic. They act as if they're the most miserable person on earth and pity themselves and expect other people to pity them. *shrug* I sympathized with him, truly I do, but he doesn't want to listen to me, so it's his choice, right? And he acts as if HE'S feeling sorry for ME. I wonder why, I'm having so much fun and HE'S the one who's slaving himself over textbooks everyday.

ARGH! I WON'T get myself irritated by stressed people. I'll just stay away from them :P

Anyway, Jen found the old, old, old Farm chainfic!! *glomps Jen* I had fun reading it all over again and wondered HOW we actually came up with those stuff..... ^_^; Yes, we were a bunch if hyterical, crazy, scheming fangirls *major sweatdrops* Take a look at it at Jen's pitas!

J, your kaworu.net is always down! I'll check whether I've sent you an e-mail that didn't got through after this and resend it again.

Going to shower and I think now I have : backache, legache, buttache, handache, and headache >.<
