My maternal grandmother died in April this year. My paternal grandmother died in May. My maternal grandfather died this evening in Jakarta. I'll miss him most.
I was going to blog about what a bad day it has been for me and what a bad week it has been. But apparently it's a bad year too.
Selene grieves once again on Saturday, August 11, 2001, 12:58 a.m.
First of all, happy National Day for the Singaporeans. (August must be the month for Independence... India's on 14th, Indonesia's on 17th and Syat just told me M'sia's on 29th) It's a national holiday, so we got the day off, and we Indonesian students of NUS take the opportunity every year to organize a one-day of gathering for seniors and new freshmen to meet and have fun with games and performances and the like. I was a committee member this year, so that should explain why I've been busy. It's been a long day filled equally with fun and foul mood >.< The foul mood is simply because of my perfectionist nature when it comes to work or responsibility. I don't tolerate tardiness very well, although it's a common affliction among Indonesians. I consider 10 - 15 minutes late as normal, I'm usually late for that long too, but when a meeting starts 2 hours later than it's supposed to start it's just plain irritating. I also don't really enjoy working with a very large inefficient commitee, whose people tend to clique. And I HATE waiting with nothing to do!! ARGH. Anyway, I'm supposed to be able to handle working with different people and different situations well because I'm a BizAder. So, err.. yeah, it's an experience. And besides, I certainly have dealt with worse.
On to some anime related things. I watched Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna ep 1 and I like it a lot. The transformed Juna reminds me of Angelic Layer's battle dolls (I forgot what they're called again...) or Final Fantasy's Guardian Forces. The two human child-looking supernatural beings (or whatever they are), Chris and Cindy, reminds me of their counterpart in Akira. @.@ Right down to the wheelchair and the telepathic thing. Eerie. I love the soundtrack (like I love all other Yoko Kanno soundtrack). Give me an anime with a fantastic soundtrack and I'll watch it till the end no matter how bad it is. I considered joining Archery Club last year and am considering it again after watching Arjuna. I've watched more Noir episodes and I realized it's actually the female version of Weiss Kreuz LOL The soundtrack still rocks. Very continental. And since I'm in my vampire obsession these days, I watched Blood the Last Vampire (IASC's next layout =D) and it's very entertaining, but it's too short, just a mere 48 minutes. The vampires are ugly blood-sucking monsters with fangs, though. Why can't they be a human-looking one (preferably the good-looking ones XD)? And lastly, I haven't been going any more than chapter 3 of Saiyuuki vol 1 manga. The vocab is too difficult for me and I don't like the idea of opening my dictionary on every single word. I'll just look for the online translation later.
Will BBS tomorrow, I guess. For now, I still have to shower and prepare for my classes tomorrow. *glances at schedule and frowns* Friday's my busiest day with classes from 10 to 4. *sigh* And I have to take minutes for tomorrow's Formal Meeting. Another boring long-winded meeting, I suspect. One last plug before I go : Billy Gilman. Check out this amazing 11 year old (or has he turned 12?) with the wonderful soothing voice.
I love my Daddy Tosh. *bites Tosh's leg off*
Selene is soooooo tireeeedddd! on Friday, August 10, 2001, 1:35 a.m.
Oh great. Now I have TWO clashes with my classes. I screwed up my schedule again. I'm going to march up right to the Dean's office tomorrow and make an appeal. I never make this kind of screw up before, it's just so terribly exasperating. I'm getting senile >.< I might have been too busy. You know, all that running around here and there ("stop by the anime club booth - don't forget to bring Adeline's CDs, got class after that - do I have a homework? oh no, what's my tutorial room number again?, then a meeting - must tidy up the financial report, then CG - gotta rush back asap, and damn, I need lunch....") and not a chance to actually sit down and gather my thoughts or check my agenda.
Argh. Crap.

Woah. Long day. But I'm not really tired. Feeling unusually cheerful, in fact (despite throbbing foot). I had my first philosophy lecture today and whaddya know, my philosophy professor is far from what I imagined him to be. He's American, he's young, he's good-looking, he compares Athenian comedy to South Park, he mutters to himself, and yeah, he delivers an entertaining 2-hour lecture. Actually, he looks so young I could have mistaken him as a student if I happened to bump into him somewhere on campus.
After lecture, I rushed to Orchard to meet Yil, long-time net friend (who turned real life friend), Boyzone Farm's Honorary Silver Fish, and a good friend to watch movies and eat snazzy meals with. We watched Bridget Jones's Diary ( sweet, fluffy, Hugh Grant is a hunk - he definitely has lost weight). We ate noodles. We talked about disgusting men, Buffy and Angel, school, Asian singers and bands, and our fellow Boyzone Farmies. We shopped around and found me a nice bag that will fit all my A4 lecture pads in. We were still going to walk around Orchard when I realized it was 8 and I had an audition at 9 back at the Hall. So I dashed back, 30 mins late, and did my audition - which went well, I hope.
I was debating on whether I should join dance practice at 10 when I was asked to join touch rugby IBG practice and I figured since I was so full of energy I might as well use it -- and I created an uproar for the whole block in the process ("TOUCH RUGBY? Aren't you supposed to be a slacker? It's a miracle!!"). But training was fun. I don't have the stamina to pkay on the actual game, though >.< I might have to start building up my stamina in the next 2 weeks.
Classes tomorrow starts at 2. Can sleep until noon. Yay. I'm hungry now *stomach growling*

Anne, thyphus? *cringe* Get well soon!
Laura and April, it wasn't Lea Salonga. It was an American-Filipino, Deedee Lynn Magno. The company (not the cast) were mainly Filipinos ^_^
Charlene, you went last year as Sano? I went last year too, without dressing up ^_^ I remember seeing a Sano but *tries hard to remember* can't remember how you looked like, though. I'll look out for Chichiri this year *wink*
Oh damn, I know Tin-sama moved her blog again but I can't find the URL in my referrers list again >.<
Selene is feeling soooo lazy on Sunday, August 5, 2001, 11:32 a.m.
Well, Miss Saigon was definitely spectacular. I never particularly like the songs nor the story very much, but seeing a live musical was fun anyway. Everything was so neat, so well-produced, so professional. Well, yeah, it's worth the money, I guess.
*cringe* A week ago I bought a Vivaldi CD containing Gloria RV 589 which I sang with my high school choir in June. It's sad to say that this CD I bought is not as good as a sold classical recording's supposed to be. I can even say that on some parts our choir was better than them. Plus, they sing in a slower tempo than us, the Alto is so weak I can barely hear them over the other 3 voices and lacks color, and the Soprano's pitch is just not there. I bought the CD so I can sing along with it (and because I've come to adore Vivaldi) but I keep singing faster than them and it's just_not_fun. Our conductor Elson would tell me everyone's free to do their own interpretation of the music, but I think theirs sound awful. The only good thing about is that the accomponiment uses a full orchestra instead of a single piano like us ^^
Ah, will BBS tomorrow.
Selene sings Gloria on Saturday, August 4, 2001, 11:59 p.m.
I wonder why my connection is so slow when it comes to downloading from the IRC. *frown* Not to mention it disconnects me when I'm not sitting in front of my computer. As if it's sulking at me for leaving it unattended. *fumes* I want my Buffy and Angel episodes, damn it! At least the FTP is more stabil and faster. But it doesn't have some of the episodes I want =(
I haven't been busy. No, not really. Just been attending my first lectures and readjusting to proper student life. I'm trying to mend my ways this semester, okay? And coming to lectures is one of it (along with reading my supposed-readings and making my tutorials >.<) But I can't seem to keep my eyes open in lectures, no matter how much I sleep the night before @.@ Anyone has a suggestion on how to stay awake through a boring 2-hour lecture? I never had this problem in high school, no matter how boring the class was, so I'm a bit puzzled with this new habit of mine. I tried coffee. Didn't work very long.
I just got back from my Saturday-8-AM Plant Biotech class. It was interesting. But still, it was too early for me - my faculty rarely has 8 AM classes and when it does, I never got it AND it doesn't have classes on Sat either so pardon the BizAd girl for being so soft, please - so I'm going back to sleep now *grin* Then maybe I'll go out to buy some things. And oh, I'm watching Miss Saigon tonight =D
Selene reads Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling on Saturday, August 4, 2001, 10:43 a.m.
WAH~~! I missed the first lecture to my most-anticipated class of the semester, Introduction to Philosophy *pouts* The lecture was on Monday and brilliant me just thought of taking the class on Monday night. So I entirely missed a no-doubt interesting lecture about Plato's Greece. I hope I won't be quite at loss on the next lecture, especially since this module seems to be quite tough. I did a quick check on the module's website and saw the lecture notes are up. The lecturer sounded nice through the website *grin* His dry humour reminds me a bit of my Jap History lecturer last year, whom I really like. And err.. I'm supposed to read Plato's Apology and Euthyphro this weekend. Hello, school.
My first lecture is tomorrow and I'm being a good girl by browsing all the classes' websites to see whether I should prepare something. I missed my Business Writing classes this week. Whatever. I'm still in the process of swapping classes to suit my timetable better anyway. My Plant Biotechnology's 4-hour long laboratory turned out to be 4-hr long field trip almost every week =D In case you're wondering, yes, I still major in Business and this sem, out of 5 classes, I only have 2 Business classes XD Isn't life grand? I might even start studying this sem.
Anne, NOOOOOO!! Not that ugly, bad-acting, despicable Takky as Kamui!! Disgusting. (I'm a Takky-hater, have you noticed? LOL) And urm, I'm almost done with my schedule for this sem. Just one more class that needs to be moved and I'm done. IF I can move it. *glares* Then I still have to register a couple of my tutorials next week. Start of semester is a big headache >.< If things go the way I plan it, I'll have my Wednesdays free. But unfortunately not my Saturdays.
Charlene, I, urm... don't know whether I'll go or not. I might go, but I probably won't be dressing up as anything XD I haven't got an idea on who to be and how I'm going to make the costume. Got any suggestion? Why did you choose Chichiri, BTW?
Shiori has moved her blog. I like the new URL =D
April, hey, thanks for the game sheet music link. I don't play the piano, never learned it before, but *checks out the music sheets* I might try to play it. *trying to make out the notes* Even if it takes me ages to play one single song. LOL. Or, never mind, I'll just sing the Alto part of the chorus ^_^
Tin-sama, *flashes a badge that says "Proud Member of Tin's Anonymous"* Hi everyone, I'm Selene and I, uh... have a Tin problem XD XD
