Selene is currently in hometown Jakarta, Indonesia enjoying her holidays so she won't be popping up online very often but you can always hope to bump into her in one of Jakarta's major malls everyday XD She currently reads Meitantei Conan mangas, plays FF7 on PC, hangs out with SMUK 1's (her almamater) choir people, eats homecooked meals and Indonesian food, chats on the phone, sings Vivaldi's Gloria RV 589, and listens to Jakarta's radio stations in hope to catch up with the current music scene ^_^x
Charlene, welcome back! I'm glad you had fun in Tokyo ~~~ I wish I was still there LOL Did you go to this store called Animate? If you didn't that's too bad! I should've told you about it before you left. It's 8-storied tall and filled with anime/manga/game goodies from top to bottom. One step in and you'll think you've died and gone to anime heaven. I know only of two branches, one at Ikebukuro (opposite Sunshine City, one of those tall buildings CLAMP gleefully destroyed) and another one at Akihabara. Oh and I also did my Clamp Historical Sites Tour *grin* I'll be making a sorta-online photo album later so all of you can check it out.
While I remember.... a lot of character names in HanaKimi are actually names of areas in Japan. Izumi Sano is the city where Osaka's airport is located. Nanba-minami is another area near Osaka (I read it on some highway sign). Akiha is from the district Akihabara in Tokyo. And Nakao's kanji is a common kanji everywhere, read as "chuuo" and meaning "central", it's everywhere from "Central Exit" in major stations to Chuuo-dori, a major street in Tokyo running through the heart of Akihabara's electric city district. Now you know why I'm so good with places' kanji LOL
take a chance~~ - Tuesday, June 19, 2001 - 6 : 18 pm
Fuuko-chan, you can order manga telephone books from Kinokuniya (both Jakarta and Singapore). Charlene does that. I used to subscribe to Nakayoshi at Kino's Jakarta a LONG LONG time ago, back when it was still Rp. 15,000. At the Singapore store, go to this reservation corner in the Chinese/Japanese section and tell them what you want and they'll reserve a copy of the mag you want every month. They'll also call you when it has arrived every month. No extra charge. Except, well, Kino's more expensive than Maruzen but sadly Maru's closed =( *I'm not over it yet* "Kino price" is a common slang used by the NUS Anime Club-ers for anything expensive LOL Jakarta's Kino is more expensive than Singapore's. The price is approx. twice the original price. Singapore's price is only 1.5 of the original price. (Selene's kiasu-ism strikes again.........)
Anne, BRING EVERYTHING!!!! LOL Just kidding. Bring whatever you want to show me. Oh and when I was in Japan, the Saiyuuki movie trailer (so was the trailer for Cowboy Bebop the movie) was playing non stop in Animate and Saiyuuki merchandise were the hottest things around. They were so tempting...........
Kenchan, hope you can join us! If not this week, well, I still have one month here =D
sun will shine? - Tuesday, June 19, 2001 - 5 : 43 pm
Fuuko, thanks for your e-mail. I replied it just now *adds Fuuko's log to link list*
WAMIIIIII *glomps* Welcome back! I kept hoping I could bump into you in Tokyo! I guess not LOL
Daddy & Mommy, where are youuuuuuuuuuu???? Daddy, more gossips coming up soon.
Anne, Kenchan, can we meet on Saturday?? Mia, care to join us?
Fel, the broken images here was probably because of server down....
My old senior high school,SMUK 1's class of 2001 graduation ceremony is tomorrow. Congrats to all of them for (finally!) surviving 3 years of SMUK 1~~~~! Despite dropping NEM average, we are still number one! Yay.
arukitsuzukeru - Sunday, June 17, 2001 - around 5 pm
I never guessed doujinshis were a big business in Japan. When I was there I saw lots of doujinshis and I didn't pay attention to them at all until we came to this cool store called Mandarake at Shibuya. It was a huge store and its shelves of doujinshis were twice the number of its original mangas. And there were so many girls and young women digging for doujinshis, buying one whole shopping basket full of doujinshis. My friends and I spent quite a long time in the store and I tried finding a HanaKimi doujinshi but I couldn't. There were several Fruits Basket ones, though. HanaYume mangas' doujinshis merely occupied half a row of shelf, so did CCS' but Gundam doujinshis occupied more than THREE SHELVES. Mostly yaoi, I presumed. There was an impressive collection of real life band doujinshis, like L'arc en Ciel and the like. Most of the visitors were glued on that part of the store, as I recalled. I bought two CCS doujinshis with amazing resemblance to the original CLAMP artwork and I loved them both. I left them in Singapore, though.
I found a mobile phone that I like today and has all the functions I want : Motorola T 189. The only downside is its silver color. Ech. Wonder whether I can change the casing. Silver is so..... Tai Tai-ish.
For ZS visitors, I haven't been fixing the bugs and updating the old pages because my laptop's modem is not working and all my files are there. For IASC visitors and would-be members, I haven't updated the site either or accepting new members due to the same reason. Plus my PC here is so outdated it won't allow me to fully experience the new sites submitted. And I can't check everyone's log optimally *sigh* This super slow and outdated PC makes me too lazy to surf at all. Anyway, I'm still fully reachable thru my usual e-mail. I might even feel more like replying them now I have more time to devote myself to it LOL
Gah. I want a new layout.
Gott is mein Hirt - Friday, June 15, 2001 - around 9, maybe
In all my life, I have never met people as crazy, as wacky, and as fun as my high school choir. Year after year, despite changing members, they are still the craziest people in school. This batch is no different than mine. One week of singing together with them, I've come to like most of them a lot. The concert was yesterday's night. I woke up this morning missing every moment of practice and the other members. I'll miss all the hard work, the aching feet, and the tunes that popped in my head every time I woke up in the morning.
The concert was great. The evening show was a sold out, we sang better than usual and some even commented that it was better than my batch last year. But still, the general crowd found the songs a bit difficult to listen to compared to last year's. We sang a lot classical songs this year. We even sang two Schubert pieces, who everyone in the choir knows always left the singers gasping for oxygen. Our soloists for Vivaldi's Gloria, both of them 1st graders, did an extraordinary job. We were so worried for Eunike, our solo soprano, because she passed out the night before after one whole day of practice and had to be carried down from the 8th floor by stairs. She scared us to death. It was certainly very nerve-wracking for the rest of us. It was late, it was raining, the lift wasn't on, the lights weren't on.... Last day of practice is always unforgettable. We practiced until after sunset, and the lights were not on, so we ended up practicing with the help of candle lights.
The choir improved a lot since I arrived one week ago. Some seniors had been feeling pessimistic about it, but the last few days of intensive training they managed to improve on themselves. I myself came down with a flu 2 days before the concert and didn't performed very well (I lost my voice midway in the 2nd session). I can't even speak without cracking my voice today. And I have runny nose. Yay.
But now, everything is over. Gloria in excelsis Deo, to God be the glory. And I'm moving on with my life.
Elyse, you don't look chubby at all in the webcam shot!!! You look petite, even. I even remember you were chubbier in the NY pics, maybe it was the bulky winter clothing, though.
Laura Sedai, welcome back! XD Missed ya~~~!
Kenchan, Anne-nee, when can we meet and have lunch? =D
Time to have my dinner of soto, the Indonesian food I missed most while I was away. Oh joy joy joy!
[quando vivi navigando] - Monday, June 11, 2001 - around midnight
Our favourite anime merchandise store in Tokyo, Animate, had lots of those plastic fans with anime/manga series picture on them. We thought the only thing you can do with those fans is to plop it between our books and stacks of papers at home and leave it there. Then we found out that Japanese actually walk around holding them and fanning themselves with those fans when the weather is hot. Jakarta's been very hot and I wish I had bought one of those fans so I can walk around fanning myself. And when I don't have time to eat lunch or dinner (like today), I wish I have a couple onigiris in my bag to eat. I wonder whether there's a place in Jakarta which sells onigiris. I don't think the Japanese supermarket at Melawai sells them.
Tonight's Messiah concert was a disappointment. The church where it was held, GKJMB, was amazingly huge. My jaw dropped when I saw it. It's new and it looks like a Greek temple, complete with the huge pillars. Is that a church or a Las Vegas hotel minus the lights????
I think I want a Nokia 3310. Or I might even stick with my Motorola since I don't know anyone else who owns it =D My current handphone is a Motorola L-series. It's turquoise green, it's very light, it has an antenna, and it resembles Japanese keitais *grin* I have a very very cute Kero strap I bought in Japan hanging on it. The only drawbacks are its inabilities to show the SMS sender's name and to let me compose my own tune.
Hello everyone *blinks sleepily* I have choir practice everyday ranging from 3 hours to 6 hours and I'm exhausted. Singing is very exhausting, you know. Especially since I've been out of practice for quite some time. I go back to my old high school every day and am getting more and more nostalgic *laugh* I used to spend almost everyday from morning till sunset there. There are lots and lots of wonderful memories and experiences. I'm just being whimsical, don't mind me ^_^x
Between choir practices, I also have to juggle with some little chores for the choir in preparation for the concert, socialize with old friends, and socialize with my family ^_^ Like Kenchan, I used to abhor family gatherings, but I've found out that my aunts (my mother has 4 sisters and 3 sister-in-laws) are very fun, regardless how old they are ^^ And they're very close; they have dinner together with my grandfather almost every week and go out shopping together. I have come to enjoy meeting them, especially since they always fill me in on the newest gossips of my cousins (aka, their own children, nieces and nephews >.<) I actually look forward to having dinner with them =D Besides, I get to eat nice food for free LOL My cousins are a tad boring though ^^;
I'll be attending a Handel's Messiah concert tomorrow. The choir people have been asking me to go and I actually didn't want to go until they showed me the ticket and I read that the tenor soloist is my choir leader at my church in Singapore. What the heck, I know he'll be fantastic, and it's not like I have anything to do.
Nee-chan, ooh, I like that Lain pic! You're coming on Thursday's concert, right?? I haven't got the chance to buy more Indonesian-translated mangas.... so sad! I console myself with rereading all my Meitantei Conan mangas.
Tin-sama has a new layout *admiring* Very Tin. I've always liked your style ^_^ It's characteristically you and easily recognizable everywhere =D
Daddy, can't you see I'm working very very hard here? I'm not used to Gloria songs yet and the 2nd session songs are a pain. I'm very ready to be cut from some of the songs. I wuv you berry berry mootch. I miss Mommy too. Hug and kiss her for me when you visit her in Taiwan. (When is that exactly, huh?)
I want a new mobile phone. Nokia 3310, 8210, or 8250, minna? (Note : the 1 million rupiah difference between each version _really_ makes a difference). My current one is a Motorola and I want Nokia this time! ^^; I keep changing my mind every day that my father is quite fed up with me LOL
[sweet like a chic-a-cherry-cola] - -
I found out what's wrong with my laptop!! But I need my installation disks to fix it and I left them in Singapore =`( So.... I'm stuck with this old outdated computer to connect online. ARGH~~~! I can't see nice graphics since I turned off the function in my IE 3.x so I can load pages faster >.< It makes me not in the mood to surf around. I haven't even seen some of the new layouts out there! Hrrrrrrrnnnnnn..... and look! *points up* My IE can't read pitas' date & time function script so there's no date & time on my entries. Netscape kept pulling an illegal operation on me when I was opening Elyse log... luckily IE didn't =D
Elyse, Singapore is only 1 hour flight away so why not go back every chance I have? *grin* I think I bought 43 mangas and a couple of those manga telephone books from Japan =D It didn't seem a lot until I started to count how many were there. And they were damn heavy. My Jap is not that good to understand everything, but I guess reading them is part of learning ^^; And I learned a lot from reading mangas. And watching animes hehehe.....
Nee-chan, I didn't buy THAT much Indonesian-translated mangas. Yet. *sweatdrop* I bought about 4 or 5 everytime I go to a book store and when I've read them all, I'll go back to buy more ^^; Today's purchase? The new Shoot prequel mangas.
Four years ago, there was a pair of twin brothers in my class who brought their Shoot manga collection to school everyday to be read during lessons ^^ The boys in my class got hooked on it, and so did I, never mind it's a shounen manga about soccer. So...... daddy Tosh, oupa Tish, this is all YOUR fault!! But I luv youuuu *glomps daddy & oupa*
Hikaru, no, it's not your log. Don't worry. It's just my very outdated computer hahaha... =D
Kenchan, I'll be in Jakarta until mid-July ^_^ Plenty of time to meet me, yes?
Before I forget.... *gets into her Publicity mode* anyone in Jakarta interested in watching my high school choir concert? It will be held at the Yamaha building on June 14th. There will be an open rehearsal with FREE admission on 3 PM and the actual performance will be on 7 PM for Rp. 10,000 ONLY. Do come! =D We'll be singing Vivaldi's entire Gloria compositions and many wonderful folk, classical, and contemporary songs. Hey, I might even sing too (it's yet to be decided) in some songs, since I only have one week left to master the songs and blend in with the rest of the choir. Which reminds me.... I need to learn the songs now. I miss my choir batch so much. We had so much fun last year in our concert. Wish all of you were here~~~
[utsukushii arcadia] - -
*laughs* Thanks for the warm welcome backs, minna. I'm home in Jakarta now.... it's nice to be home *hugs her book shelves* I haven't been home in 5 months... which is quite a long time, since I usually go back every 3 months or so. I had a nice chat with my parents, telling them about my Japan trip and some other stuff. My mom was aghast when she found out how much I spent for mangas but she claimed that these two expensive shirts I bought in Japan cheap. *rolls eyes* I should've bought more clothes then. LOL. And I didn't buy enough souvenirs for everyone. Now I feel so bad for having to make up some lame excuses hahaha....
And would you believe it, I'm currently connecting to the Net using my super old desktop, which has 33.6 Kb modem and *choke* Pentium 133. Amazing, isn't it? It took me around 2 minutes to open Hikaru's log. I quite missed this old computer, actually. I'll have to remember to buy a new desktop to bring home next time when I'm in Singapore. My laptop couldn't connect just now, something wrong with the modem and the configuration I guess. I'll fix it once I figure out what's really wrong with it.
I was a bit disoriented today. This afternoon I found myself mentally converting the price of a McDonalds meal from Japanese Yen to Singaporean dollar, when it was actually already in Singaporean dollar >.< And just now I was actually trying to find some custard puddings in the supermarket's fridge and was puzzled when I only saw rows of colourful jellys. Money matters baffled me most. Singapore dollar has a 20 cent coin, Japanese yen doesn't. Indonesian rupiah has a 500 rupiah coin, Singapore dollar doesn't have a 500 coin, but Japanese yen does have a 500 yen coin. I kept thinking "What the...? Is it the wrong amount?" when I received a change when I bought something. It doesn't help I have all three currency in my wallet right now. I need rest @.@
Went to a nearby mall with my parents after dinner and um.... bought some Indonesian-translated mangas. There are so many old mangas/numbers published again! I can complete some of my missing volumes of some series now! But sadly the price of mangas have gone up since I was last here and the quality is declining *sigh* There were so many defective copies *frown* I had to make sure the ones I bought didn't have any. In the past I could just pick one up without checking and it would always be alright. I LOVE Meitantei Conan~~~~~~
Anne, did you want the YnM chara book or the sketch book? *frown* I got you the chara book since that's what you wrote in your log before I left. I'm a bit blur here... I do remember you saying something not to get them mixed up but errr... maybe I DID mixed them up? *sweatdrop* Good luck for your exams!!!! And if you've gotten some weird SMS message from an unknown number, that's probably me. I can't remember my own mobile number here.... It'll come to me tomorrow, maybe.
Mia, happy belated birthday dear!
Kenchan, good luck for your exams too! Study well!
Rei-chan, glad to know there's someone who actually looks forward to reading this log *awe* Thank you, and well, I'm back now! *laugh*
Isabela, my suitcase weighted 21 kg and I still carried an additional large paper bag and my backpack ^^; Don't stress too much! =)
I can't remember who asked what mangas I bought. I actually bought the missing volumes of the series I already have. I have now completed my Rurouni Kenshin, X, DN Angel, Wish, KareKano, Angelic Layer, and HanaKimi mangas (SA-NOOOO!! Too bad no 15 is not out until the next 2 weeks). I bought all Saiyuuki mangas and CLAMP's newest, Lawful Drug. I couldn't read Saiyuuki, BTW *laugh* Too many cryptic Chinese characters. I left all my mangas in Singapore except RK, because most of my collection are in Jakarta and I brought the rest back so I can line them up neatly in my book shelf, all 28 of them *satisfied grin* Lawful Drug is good, but not very fantastic. It's quite interesting, though.
Hmmm~~~ everyone seems to be busy with school~~~ =) Ah well, do your best, minna! And people in Jakarta, once you're all done with exams, we should meet, yes? Maybe all of you at the same time? How 'bout it?
Amazing. I actually got alert windows with error messages.
I'm very very very tired so I'll make this a quick summary of what's been happening in my life =D A few days ago my parents called me in Tokyo to say that I'm not allowed to go back to Jakarta due to the current situation and that I'm supposed to enjoy my holiday in Australia with my mother and cousins, etc. But just now I phoned them and they said since I insisted on going back to Jakarta, they finally said I can do whatever I want and come home. Which is, of course, great. Then I realized that my flight to Jakarta, which has already been confirmed since before I left, is TOMORROW and that I still have to unpack my 21 kg suitcase filled with over *koff* 40 mangas *koff* (and a whole lot more) AND pack them again for Jakarta. I spent the last few hours in utter chaos and confusion. Not to mention I'm sharing my room with someone now and the entire room is just filled both of our things and I don't have a place to put all the new stuff I brought and so everything drives me crazy LOL
Anyway...... Japan Japan Japan.... it was fantastic, of course. Saw lots of goodies. Spent a lot of money. Am totally broke. Wish I had more money so I could buy more things. Walked a lot. Feet hurt like hell. Saiyuuki must be the hottest thing right now since they're EVERYWHERE and so I was sorely tempted until I gave in and bought the entire mangas. Gackt was on every night on TV and so um, I'm very much enamoured by him LOL. Went to Harajuku last Sunday and saw those cosplayers on the street and took lots of pictures of them. All of them were very cool and obliging =D Full stories and pictures of my Japan trip coming soon.
Thanks to those who e-mailed me *am wading through a pile of mail*. I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks to those who signed the guestbook too. Yin! J! Nice to see you two again. We have some catching up to do. Anne, I got the YnM book, the AS shitajiki, and the Gravi fanbook for you. I haven't got the time to check out other people's logs yet so will BBS in a couple of days. Expect some new layouts in the coming month since I have lots of goodies to scan. And yes, I'll be lugging my scanner and VAIO laptop back to Jakarta tomorrow. The woes of travelling >.< Why can't I travel light???
Need to sleep now since I still have to run a few errands tomorrow morning (like, err... long-overdue library books?) and finish my packing. Sugoku tsukareta~~~~~~~~~! Ja, minna, mata!
[the girl who stole the stars] - Thursday, May 24, 2001 - 06:13 p.m.
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go..... (in another 2 hours, actually). So, itte kimasu, minna! =D Take care and blog a lot while I'm gone so I'll have plenty to read when I return ^_^x Good luck with exams for those who still have it~~~~! Feel free to email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. No spam or junk mail, please, or I will let Enishi out of his cage to play with you. My 2nd semester results will be out in another week, but I don't want to ruin my holiday by going to a net cafe and checking it ^^; Okay, I'll see you all in another 1 1/2 week! Ja!
[my heart is black and my body is blue] - Thursday, May 24, 2001 - 02:11 a.m.
IT'S DOOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!!! I, uh, haven't been checking for bugs THAT thoroughly, so anyone who finds a bug somewhere can you please notify me ASAP before I leave for Japan in less than 24 hours? =D I'm sure there should be several, since I've been moving the files around servers for the past several hours, changing the links all over again, uploading, downloading, basically driving myself crazy =P Add packing for my trip and phoning Mom to that and you get a very frazzled Selene -_-
I have been working on this version for so long I hate the layout now >.< I want a new one! But transferring and editing the files is tedious work. Sure, external style sheets help a lot but I still have to edit every single HTML file a bit here and there. V3.0 of ZS has about 280+ HTML files, since there are two different versions. Tsukareta~~~~!
Lan tian nu, (I like the name, BTW) I have only watched the first two episodes of Kaikan Phrase. I don't know about the manga, but I heard the anime is supposed to be mindless fluff as well? =D Ask Tin or Anne. Or, the NUS Anime Club website has a review of it *publicity ^.~* You can also catch the latest news on the message board =)
Final Fantasy the Movie will be released here on July 12. The NUS Anime Clubbers intend to watch it together on the first day but I don't think I'll be back in Singapore then ;_; *pause* Actually almost everyone I know intend to watch it on the first day so...... it should be an instant sold-out. (I heard someone even talked of booking the tix from now??? >.<) To kick off the publicity, there's this whole Final Fantasy exhibition going on at Heeren (which I can't attend since I won't be here... why does all good things happen when I'm not around?) along with all sorts of things Japanese starting from showcases of J-pop & J-rock artists and the AXN Anime Fest. Life is not faiiiiiiiiirrrrrrr!! WAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Now let me rest and read my Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere in peace.
[masshiro ga koi wa tsubasa ni naru] - Wednesday, May 23, 2001 - 11:31 p.m.
The reason why ZS is not up yet is because I've been running into those typical problems with free servers >.< I've been moving my 600+ files around and making a mess out of everything and I have a headache because of it but once the servers are up, it'll be open. I think ZS is just too much for me to handle. Especially since I tend to be unorganized >.< *brightening up* I could use a host though =D Anyone who has some 5-7 MB (or more) space to spare, please consider hosting ZS ^_^x I'll be a good hostee, really =D
[hey baby let's keep in touch] - Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - 08:21 p.m.
I was urrrmm... at Kino again today (yes, I do go there 3 times a week! LOL) and saw June's Asuka. But didn't buy it because no X in it =D Then another manga telephone book, Shoujo Teikoku, caught my eye. It had CLAMP written on the cover so I picked it up. And it has a postcard of CLAMP's newest series, Lawful Drug (the Jap title says Gouhou DORA-GU or 合法 ドラーグ). It was so nice (but I didn't buy it LOL I considered stealing the postcard, though.)!! The manga, published by Kadokawa Shoten, will be on sale on June 1. I don't bother to read what it's about, actually. Although the main characters are these two males who are, naturally, bishounens. Oh and Anne, I keep forgetting >.< Shoujo Teikoku is where Suzue Miuchi's Amaterasu is running in. It's been appearing on several past editions of Shoujo Teikoku, so I think the new volume should be out soon.
What's Terminal, BTW? *blur look* Maybe when I get home we should all meet, ne? Then I can raid Anne's collection *eyes gleaming* I'll be home on June 5, I think. But I'll be busy with my ex-high school choir concert since they certainly need it *just got a full report on their progress so far and is not happy with it*. I don't know whether I'll sing. The alumnis are allowed to, since our members are dwindling; but I guess I'll just see whether I can catch up with their months of training in one mere week and what our coach says. The concert itself is scheduled on June 14.
Right, thanks to those who have commented on the new layout =D I hope you all like it~~~~~!
[I am a dreamer] - Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - 01:28 p.m.
Ta-Dam! New layout =D Featuring Sakuya of Kaikan Phrase, picture courtesy of Anne-nee-chan. A bishounen this time, like I promised. No one will notice how sloppy my work is, okay? ^^;
*scribling down Anne's orders* Hai, ojousama! *bows* Oh I found out after a little intrepid investigation here and there that this person with the ever-changing nickname is none other than our beloved little thief who once called me a "satan-licking bitch". Quite a mouthful 13-year-old, huh?
Mia, I think Australian accent are quite nice, actually =D At least they still speak with proper grammar. Singaporeans and Malaysians (okay, not ALL of them, but most of them) don't. And it's very contagious.
Isabela, I'm thinking about it. I'll send you an e-mail later on.
Laura's log has gone missing again. What happened, dear??
Tin is coming to Singapore in June? 0.o But I'll be home in Jakarta then ;_; Nyaaaaahhhh... anyway, I know you'll have fun with Shi-chan and Charlene dragging you around ^.~
The rain has stopped but the weather is still nice so I should hurry and go out before the sun gets me!
